OpenAgri has reached an exciting milestone in its mission to democratize digital farming. This month, nine newly selected Sustainable Innovation Pilots (SIPs) officially joined the OpenAgri ecosystem, expanding the project’s reach and impact across Europe. Together with the five core pilots, they now form a network of fourteen living testbeds that are driving the co-creation, testing and scaling of open-source Agricultural Digital Solutions (ADSs).
These new SIPs bring diversity in geography, expertise and innovation. From precision soil management and data-driven irrigation to climate-smart crop monitoring and energy-efficient farm operations, each pilot will explore how open technologies can help farmers make informed and sustainable decisions. Their inclusion strengthens OpenAgri’s vision of a more equitable and accessible digital farming landscape—one where innovation is open by design and benefits reach even the most remote communities.
What makes this expansion truly significant is the shared commitment to collaboration. The new SIPs will work side by side with farmers, researchers, and technology developers to test solutions under real-world conditions. Guided by the OpenAgri methodology, these pilots will apply co-creation practices, ensure interoperability among systems, and contribute to a growing pool of reusable, open-source components.
The onboarding process marks the start of close cooperation and shared learning. Through introductory workshops, the new SIPs have been familiarized with OpenAgri’s co-creation framework, interoperability standards, and data governance principles—ensuring that every innovation integrates seamlessly into the wider ecosystem. Each pilot becomes part of a connected community that shares both technology and experience, creating a collective resource for Europe’s digital transition in agriculture.
Beyond technical progress, this phase represents an important step in strengthening the OpenAgri community. Each SIP will collaborate with local farmers and stakeholders.
As these new pilots begin their activities, OpenAgri continues to demonstrate how digital transformation in agriculture can be open, inclusive and impactful. The future of farming is being built collaboratively, one pilot, one community, and one open innovation at a time.
