OpenWeedLocator (OWL) is a low-cost, image-based weed detection device designed for site-specific weed control in both in-crop and fallow scenarios. It runs on a Raspberry Pi and uses simple green-detection algorithms with options for customization and upgrades.
OWL integrates a camera system, relay control board, and optional 3D-printed enclosures, allowing it to activate solenoids, sprayers, or other 12V components for targeted weed treatment. The system supports real-time operation and has been field-tested on robots, vehicles, and bicycles, offering an accessible solution for precision weeding.
