This open-source, solar-powered sensor node is designed for remote deployment in gardens or fields to monitor environmental conditions. It measures soil temperature, air temperature, humidity, luminosity, and soil moisture levels. The project’s goal is to provide an affordable solution, with a raw cost intended to be under $20. As of March 2015, soil and air temperature and humidity sensors are active on all nodes, and they are all solar-powered. A prototype soil moisture sensor has been developed but not yet deployed. Further information and updates are available on the project’s blog.
