FarmVibes.Connect is an experimental connectivity platform developed by Microsoft Research to deliver long-range, low-cost internet access to remote farm areas. It uses underutilized TV white space spectrum (VHF/UHF bands) to provide broadband coverage directly in the field and supports narrowband IoT (NB-IoT) over the same spectrum for sensor communication. The system enables data transmission from drones, tractors, and edge devices even where traditional Wi-Fi or cellular service is unavailable. Designed for scalability, a single base station can cover tens of miles and hundreds of IoT endpoints, supporting high-density, sensor-rich agriculture.
